On Friday, January 22, 2016, the Virginian-Pilot reported on efforts being made by local mayors to support a boost to education funding.
The Pilot reported that all five South Hampton Roads mayors joined more than 100 other officials across Virginia’s Urban Crescent seeking more money for Virginia’s schools in a message to Governor McAuliffe. As reported in the story, one of the leading voices in Richmond for the effort to properly fund education is Senator Kenny Alexander.
From the Virginian-Pilot:
General Assembly members have consistently said this budget season that is a top priority for them as well. State Sen. Kenny Alexander, a Democrat whose district includes parts of Chesapeake and Norfolk, said an added investment in education is crucial.
“As we look at growing our economy, an educated, highly trained, highly skilled workforce is going to be essential,” said Alexander, who is running for mayor of Norfolk.
