(April 8, 2016 – Norfolk, VA) - U.S. Senator Timothy Kaine announced today that he has endorsed Virginia state Sen. Kenneth Cooper Alexander for Mayor of Norfolk in the May 3, 2016, city elections.
“I’m proud to endorse Kenny Alexander, whose vast public service experience at municipal and state levels has prepared him to effectively lead the city of Norfolk as Mayor,” said Senator Tim Kaine. “From serving as president of the Beacon Light Civic League in Norfolk’s Berkley neighborhood, to his years on Norfolk’s Human Services Commission, Planning Commission and Economic Development Authority, and his work for the people of Hampton Roads in the General Assembly, Kenny has proven himself as a fiscally responsible, compassionate leader who has a unique understanding of how government policies impact a community and its residents.”
Alexander said he deeply appreciated Senator Kaines’s endorsement, coming from someone who has served the people of Virginia at several levels of government. “
As a former mayor of Richmond, I know how important it is to elect city leaders like Kenny who listen to the concerns of their constituents and reach across the aisle to solve problems,” said Senator Kaine. “Kenny is the right person for the job and I look forward to helping him get elected this May.”
